L'Edge SuperLite

Whitewater

When it was introduced in 2010 the L’Edge quickly became the benchmark canoe for paddlers of all skill levels. Whether you are looking to learn the basics, surf your local wave, or absolutely style your favourite steep creek, the L’Edge has something special to offer everyone on every run. Now molded for Esquif by the experts at Liquidlogic you can rest assured that you are getting a polyethylene canoe that is as tough as possible. The L’Edge SuperLite is a lighter weight version of our popular L’Edge Lite. Weighing in at 43 pounds (8 pounds lighter than the Lite) the SuperLite has been receiving rave reviews for its improved handling. This weight savings is achieved by reducing the overall amount of plastic used in the hull so if you are mostly paddling shallow rock-filled rivers, enjoy scraping down big slides, or are expecting to take big hits on big drops, then the heavier-duty L’Edge Lite will be a better choice. The Superlite is ideal for folks who love the performance of the L’Edge but who want a lighter hull that is both easier to carry, and more responsive on the water.

Care

The primary ingredient of our rotomold canoes is polyethylene. Polyethylene is a tough, waxy-textured material that is unaffected by water and many chemicals. Additives are used to give UV and weather protection, prevent colour fade and protect the plastic during processing and throughout the life of the canoe.

Storing

Ideally your canoe should be stored inside, upside down on racks in a cool and dry environment. If you store your canoes outside it should also be upside down on racks and the wooden gunnels should never touch the ground. Do not store it where it will be exposed to ice and snow loads as this can distort your canoe. See the wooden gunnels section for specific care instructions.

There are a variety of opinions about cold cracking. During extreme temperature fluctuations, T-Formex has a thermal expansion factor different than wood, it can expand or contract faster than wood which can cause cracks from where the wood trim has been screwed, this results in cracks in the hull generally located near the saddles. Ideally, you are better off storing your canoe in an attached and insulated or heated and weatherproof storage.

If stored outside, we suggest unscrewing the screws from the deck plates over a distance of 36 inches without touching the seat hangers or thwarts to prevent cold-cracking.
